September 2026 - An Island of Light in Venice

Before the Storm has been selected for An Island of Light, the fourth edition of the Homo Faber Biennial.

​Under the artistic direction of Es Devlin, the exhibition brings together hundreds of artisans from around the world in a series of immersive installations.

Presented at Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Isola di San Giorgio Maggiore, 30124 Venice, Italy.

From the 1st to the 30th of September 2026.

June 2026 - Homo Faber Fellowship in Copenhagen

Following its presentation during Milan Design Week, Before the Storm will be exhibited in Copenhagen as part of the Homo Faber Fellowship exhibition Today’s Masters Meet Tomorrow’s Talents during 3daysofdesign.

Presented at Bianca d’Alessandro Gallery, Frederiksholms Kanal 28A, 1220 København, Denmark.

From the 10th to the 12th June 2026.

A sculptural straw marquetry side table exhibited milan design week

April 2026 - The reveal of Before the Storm
 

House of Straw unveils Before the Storm, a collaborative side table created by Kim Jordan and Sandra Pinto for the Homo Faber Fellowship 2025-2026 and presented during Milan Design Week 2026.

Arts & Crafts & Design, Casa degli Artisti, Via Tommaso da Cazzaniga, Corso Garibaldi 89/A, Milan. Until the 26th of April 2026.

Inspired by the seaside before a storm, the piece combines straw marquetry, glass and aluminium to explore light, texture and movement through contemporary craft.

The sand Ripples are recreated through straw marquetry.

The clouded Sun, a glass sphere by glass blower Fann Chau.

The frozen Wind, a metal handle by metal worker Matthew Warburton.​​​

House of Straw founder Sandra Pinto will take part in Today’s Masters Meet Tomorrow’s Talents, the Homo Faber Fellowship exhibition presented during Milan Design Week 2026 at Casa degli Artisti in Milan.

Curated by Creative Director Luca Guadagnino, the exhibition brings together collaborations between master artisans and emerging talents from across Europe, showcasing the creative outcomes developed during the Homo Faber Fellowship 2025-2026 programme.

House of Straw founder Sandra Pinto and mentor Kim Jordan were mentioned in Livingetc in relation to the Homo Faber Fellowship exhibition Today’s Masters Meet Tomorrow’s Talents at Casa degli Artisti in Milan.

The article presented the fellowship as a cross-cultural showcase pairing master artisans with emerging craft practitioners from across Europe, and featured the duo’s collaborative side table combining straw marquetry, glass and aluminium.

September 2025 - Homo Faber Fellowship
 

House of Straw founder Sandra Pinto has been selected as a Homo Faber Fellow for the 2025-2026 edition of the international mentorship programme presented by the Michelangelo Foundation. Supported by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the 7-month sponsored programme pairs established artisans with emerging talents.

During the fellowship, Sandra Pinto is working alongside master artisan Kim Jordan (www.kimjordan.co.uk) to develop new contemporary straw marquetry works exploring reflection, rhythm and sculptural surfaces.
